Testes sit along the central vein(vena cava)attached by very small veins...the adrenal glands are right there as well why neutering an ig can cost upwards of $500.oo (what I paid)....when Feo was neutered surprisingly his testes were VERY small not normal sized despite being right at the tail end of "his season"......this was not an easy decision to make....and already I am EXTREMELY pleased with the results....I am able to leave my male Feo ALONE with the female Juana without him trying to kill her...he was NEVER interested in mating just maiming anything and anybody he could get access to size & sex whether a much smaller ig, or larger more dominant ig didn't matter. Breeding season or not. People often think neutering is the only alternative ...it is not.As Iz's Mom pointed out people's perception of the outcome is often disillusioning, but for me it has been a blessing...because the way the testes are transfixed (cut & cauterized ) there is remaining tissue containing testosterone which continue to effect a male igs behavior. It isn't until subsequent breeding seasons before any notable change can be observed. Even tho Feo acted like he wanted to bite me a couple of days ago....I never in my wildest dreams would of believed I would see him & Juana laying on one another out on the patio in total bliss just three months later. Miraculous or related to the neuter I really don't know.I couldn't even let them see each other for almost a year! No...Im not recommending people go out and routinely neuter their igs....but if there is no other recourse, you can afford it, have no intentions on breeding or ditching your ig...I say GO FOR IT! You have nothing to loose (except more blood!) j/k!
