The sand is a big problem. The ig can accidently ingest it and this may be the problem. Once indigested, the sand cannot be digested, thus blocking up the digestion system. Also do you have a uvb/uva bulb? If not,do you take him outside in the sun for long periods of time? If not he can't process calcium thus resulting in M.B.D[metabolic bone disease]. This is a very scerious condition in wich your ig may die. Also hot rocks are notorious for over heating and damaging and possibly killing your ig.Also being in a new environment may stress him out.He could also have worms wich is very common in young igs.To improve basking spot temps, instead of using a hot rock, put a large piece of slate stone under the basking spot. It would be better to make shelves high up and they have a basking light above it.
Nomatter what it says on the box or what a petstore clerck tells you, no incandescent bulb puts out enough uv to bennifit your ig. I reccomend a vita lite or a Zoomed 5.0 florescent light bulb. Take to your herp vet for a check-up.
Hope this helps,
jeremy
