Usually females who are about to lay eat less, are restless, dig a lot (like you said) and get buldges on their sides, you might only be able to see this from above or below.
Getting a female iguana spayed is really ones own choice. For one, it is a stress on the iguana. Two, there are high risks involved. Three, you must make SURE your vet knows what he is doing before spaying your iguana.
Good points would be that if the spaying is done CORRECTLY and the operation is pulled off with no strings, the iguana can live a "Egg" free life. But please read a lot, talk to other a lot, and research everyhting you can before making the choice to spay. As I said, the risks are high. And a healthy female iguana with regular vet check-ups can go through life laying eggs each year every year in a healthy fashion if the female is well looked after and has proper medical attention at all times.
