I never have a leash on Sammy, she really does not need it. But if I did not I would definitely use one, I think they could be used safely. The traffic does not scare her and of course I am usually
pretty close to her and definitely only a few feet from her while crossing streets. You can see us on a walk around the block in our egglaying video (URL below):

She knows the whole way, I just follow her. Baby Sapphire i do NOT trust, she does not understand that a car would make her a smooshed blueberry road
kill really fast. She is too young and small and immature mentally to do such things. Maybe in 3 years....
