Hiya Theresa!
Yeah hot rocks aren't recommended for iguanas...Nighttime temps for iguanas are 68-78 degrees you gotta have two temperature gauges one placed near the side your iguana hangs out/basking spot....the other down below..."cool side". Need a che (ceramic heating element...bulb with no light(no vision)...and/ or bulbs as Skinny posted or infared heat lamps red/blue. These are real important especially if your ig is in an outdoor enclosure or for cold winters to maintain temps. My male is outside on the patio...he has a che and an infared red heatlamp during the winter/cold nights I cover his wire front enclosure with a quilted moving blanket (Home Depot for 13.oo) that helps retain the heat.Summer warm nights I just have the infared going.
Get che's cheap at bird/aviary/poultry supply houses something like 15.00 . If bought at reptile shops or pet stores cost is something like 30.00 but they last for YEARS!
Anyway..Hope this helps ya out. I'd be interested in your set-up how big, indoor vs outdoor, wire front? sides? like that.
Gina
