And congrats too, on being a new mom!
I try not to be too paranoid about things like that, but no sense in taking chances. To this point I've been using diluted bleach to wash the cage, pooping-tub, and my hands; for the latter Purell sure sounds like a better alternative!
Now I'll just have to work on teaching Zen and my hubby to like each other... :)
(Provided, of course, that my original question at some point (soon, I hope!) stops being hypothetical...)

: As Juby mentioned I just had a baby, Carson David is 4 weeks old today (I cannot believe it has been 4 weeks already!)
: During both of my recent pregnancies ( I also have a 22 month old daughter and a nine year old son in addtion to Carson) I have owned an ig. I was the primary caregiver for the ig during these pregnancies and handled all aspects of their care. I was always extremely careful to wash my hands throughly before and after handling the ig, their leavings, food dish, enclosures or anything else they came in contact with. I also disinfect my hands with purell antibacterial stuff afterwards. I also am careful to clean and disinfect my hands again before I eat or handle food meant for human consumption.
: My current ig is taken out to roam daily under supervison. After returning her to her tank I spray the carpet of the areas she has been with a disinfectant spray. This is a precaution for the free roaming kids I have.
: Although there are risks involved with reptiles and salmonella, I believe that proper precautions and hygiene greatly reduce these risks. If you have a Significant Other that can take over the cleaning and poop duty (like Juby has) that would better while you are pregnant.
: Hope this helps and good luck!
: Kayo
