Xta....Melissa has an article about reptile supplements at her site and the unreliability of them as they are not regulated by any agency for accuracy of listed ingredients...may want to check that out. In Maders Reptile & Surgery there is a chart showing different reptile supplements Reptivite,Reptical,NektonRep Pet Tabs Plus, Vionate ProBalance and Centrum.....Nekton Rep shows 6500 IUs of Vitamin A, Centrum in second with 3570 IUs. Centrum has tons more Vitamin D-3 than any other reptile vitamin with 286 IUs. As far as calcium content Reptivite looks better.
Here's a link Igmomma gave me sometime ago when I was looking for info on Kidney failure...but you might find it very interesting...for water dragons but could work for iguanas as well...
Vitamin supplement 2xs per week
Calcium supplement everyday
Ive read that iguanas that do not get much activity are at highest risk of hypercalcemia
You would be very surprised at how much of the calcium in foods we give our igs is actually absorbed...about half of what comes up on the USDA nurtient database and if its beans the calcium absorbility is pitifully low. So I think even if your igs are not babies or gravid or whatever that the chances of them getting hypercalcemia from supplementing even everyday is not very great.
Crush and put in a salt shaker or old spice container ....sprinkle vitamin /calcium on salad as you would salt your own food.
Anyway...hope this link helps its under the Topic "What kind of supplements are you offering"
Remember you gotta scream Uncle before I'll stop confusing you!
