Could you explain "losing" a little bit more? Does it fall off or did you have it removed?
It sounds as if you have a case of gangrene going on. There are 2 kinds: wet and dry The wet - tail is "mushy" and stinks. Dry - shrivels up and looks like a stick.
Either one HAS got to be treated by amputating the bad part in to the good part to be sure and get rid of all of the bad. You will need a herp vet to do this. If you don't get it done, then septicimia can/will set in which is blood poisoning and IT WILL KILL.
A herp vet can determine exactly what is going on with your ig's tail. If amputation of part of it is necessary, they will put him under for it. They will amputate the bad part and leave it unsutured. They should give an antibiotic shot while there after the operation and then you should be given oral antibiotics to give for at least 10 days. If all goes well, he will in all likelihood regenerate his tail. The tail section that is regenerated will have no bone in it and I don't believe that it will have any of the stripes. (In case you wonder *how does she know this*.......our female just had this operation last Friday *grin*)
But please come back and give some more explanation in case this is not what I think it is. I'll leave a website on dry gangrene for you to read to see if you think it sounds right.
