Hi, again, xta!

I myself prefer to use humamn grade products because the standards for making them are higher than the standards for any reptile-made product. Also, for the most part, they are cheaper and more readily available. If you really want to use a product that was made for a reptile, a decent product that I have used is the HerpCare line. THeir calcium is only calcium carbonate, and their vitamins don't contain vitamin A, but instead contain beta carotene, which iguanas can make vitamin A from, themselves. Thus eliminating the worry of vitamin A toxicity. If you decide to use tums, one crushed Tums (Tum?) 2 - 3 times a week is a good dose for an adult ig (over 10" svl) and 1/4 to 1/2 a crushed tum 3-4 times a week is sufficent.

On another note, I suggest you lose the Tetra. Couple reasons: 1. It has phosphorus in it, and *no* calcium suppliment should have any phosphorus in it. 2. It also contains vitamins, and an iguana needs more calcium supplimentation that vitamin supplimentation. You could over-dose your iguana with vitamins and still not be giving it enough calcium. Plus, it has vitamin A in it, which I already mentioned can be quite dangerous.
Hope this helps!

Best,
Jamie/JBug

: Thanks for all of the info (I was expecting the reptile brands, never thought of alternatives!) THe one I currently use is Reptical by Tetra (for my juvenile iguana). It has calcium, phosphorus, vitamin a, d, b, and e. I do not use it daily, but 3-4x per week. I like the fact that it has some vitamins in there too, but now that I look at the ingredients, it has some stuff I don't want (like oyster shell flour, bone meal, & dessicated liver) This isn't written on front, but in fine print on back. THe rest of the ingredients are good, but those seem pretty protein ridden to me.

: Anyway, if I did use Tums, how many would I give him & how often? Otherwise, I'd be interested in good reptile product brands.
