You could try moistening the soil some. That's how I got ours to finally lay both times.

Re cost of spaying...it's going to differ vet to vet I'd imagine. Ours was around $700 BUT she had prolapsed while laying and required emergency overnight care, IV therapy, etc. Not your usual cost.
