Welcome to our forum,
First off, either one of these reptiles are going to have their problems. The pros and cons of both of them pretty much even out as I sat and thought about it. I hate to say this...and as BH said, have you thought about BD's? BD's are by far less up keep then either of the reptiles you are thinking of getting. Iguana's and WD's don't even compare to a BD when it comes to the debate. Check BD's out before you make your decision. And there are a few owners of BD's here at this forum too.(OMG....I can't believe I'm pushing Bd's....what have these people done to me? LOL) ( inside joke)
Now just incase you decide to get a iguana; as some have posted here, which I will comment on in just a bit, please think about adopting. If you are a female, consider getting a female iguana. During breeding season, a male "might" sense YOU as kinda like fair game. Males can definitely tell that you are a female.....and sometimes they don't care if you are from the human race! Full grown Males can be a handfull. This may or may not happen, if you spend "alot" of time with your iguana every day....meaning 2 hours or more, the chance of something happening seems to be reduced some. With either sex.....the more time together with you, the better the relationship between your iguana and yourself. And if there is something wrong either with: Diet, Environment, health, etc..... this can lead to aggressive behavors in iguanas. This sounds strange but you almost have to crawl under their skin and become them......to understand and to be aware of what is going on with them. If you want emotion from a iguana....the key words are "Time spent together". You don't give it....don't expect it back!
Now for some of the other postees,.....I would like to say to ya'll.......Thank you so much for bringing up the information of adopting vs buying. This truly gave me a warm feeling inside to read this from so many of you, suggesting adoption instead of purchasing. And for that, I applaud you all! You all are truly wonderful friends!
