Hello! I would like to start off by saying that you are going about this the right way! Research before you get the animal is the smartest way to go. I am no expert on water dragons, but I do know that they are not social the way that Igs are. Water dragons need a more natural surrounding to feel comfy. They are a bit more nervous, and not quite as handleable. Water Dragons need a huge enclosure that has not only plenty of climbing apparatus, but tons of humidity and a huge water retreat. theuy need plenty of swimming water. I think that if you're looking for an animal that is going to have a more beautiful and visual enclosure, go with the WD, but bear in mind that an appropriate enclosure for it will be rather costly. If you want a more social animal that (potentially) will come up to you, and request your affection, and just hang out with you, and love you for caring for it....than go for an Ig...........
Also, I too believe that the best way to go as far as acquiring an iguana is to adopt one. There are too many iguanas that need homes for us to keep buying them from the stores. In fact........I know of two female iguanas in my home state of Michigan, that are looking for homes. Both are very docile and sweet and beautiful. Let me know and maybe we can set something up!
