A day at the Vet

Hi All,

I am soooo tired after making three separate trips to the vet and then having to go and buy bugs for Spike.

I got up at 6AM threw a towel over him and gave Xaveir a poop bath. Threw another towel over him to get him into the travel cage. Got to the vet and he wanted to try to remove the growth in his mouth with a local anesthetic. He threw two towels over him and got him on the table. We got his mouth propped open; he gave him the shot and pulled out most of the growth. He then used silver nitrate to burn out some more of the growth and seal the wound. All in all he was a real sweetheart, go figure. Anyway he weighed 9lb and is good condition. No real follow up is needed other than maybe repeat it in a month or so if it is decided to be prudent to do so. However, it took two years for it to return enough to remove again so chances are we won't have to.

Returned home, cleaned out the Ig pool and gave Willie a poop bath. No towel this time, just blood up and down my arms. He was totally spastic, jamming his head into the cage etc. When we got to the vet, he threw two towels on him and got him on the table. He is in good shape also except for a rather nasty mouth infection, which along with a shed, is probably the reason his appetite has decreased. Anyway it's 14 days of oral Baytril, at .4ml a day, for him and no follow up if everything looks OK. He weighed 8lb.

Came back home for Kiwi and Spike. I had to pluck her from the top of her cage (8') again without a towel and of course was able to produce another 1/2 pint of blood. She was just as spastic as Spike had been and did an equal amount of damage to herself. Dumb lizards. No poop bath this time she must have went on her own due to all of the excitement with Xaveir and Willie. I got Spike loaded up in his travel home and off we went. As I pulled out of the driveway there was a box turtle in the street. I went over to pick him up and saw that dogs or something had chewed off some of his shell in the past. Well there is lots of building, dogs, cats, and kids around here so I couldn't just let him go or he'd been a goner for sure. So off I go to the vet Kiwi Spike, the turtle, and me. By now I'm beginning to question my sanity. We get to the vet and he throws two towels over Kiwi but missed getting a good hold on her. She ran partially out of the towels and up his arm, and then tried to jump off. He made a great save but now she was right up in his face with mouth open and was pissed. He was backing up (I don't know why since she was on him). I went over and helped get her restrained, wrapped in the towels and on the table. By this time, I am no longer the only one which has given blood today. He had maybe 8 good tattoos and some puncture holes in his shirt. He checked her over and said she also was in very good shape. She weighed 7.5lb.

Spike, as always, was the perfect angel, after taking all this in and waiting patiently for his turn to star, did nothing eventful. He weighed 411gm. and was given a clean bill of health.

So after many apologies for the assault by Kiwi, I returned home and went to the shop for bugs.

I was then able to do my normal herp duties such as making salads, feeding, and medicating herps.

Sorry for this being so long but I thought it might interest some of you and I do hope each and everyone of you had a day at least as good as mine.

Happy Herping, Iguana03

BTW The vet took the turtle to release near his home in the country.
