In some cases, the damaged spines will grow back. But if they are damaged too deep, the chance are not good for regrowth. Our Lola is prone to breaking a spine or two once in awhile, but so far as I can tell all of them are growing back ( but slowly). We can't protect them all the time like we want, but doing some safe-guards can assure few damaged ones. If your ig free roams, make sure there are no areas where your ig can get into that he/she has to back up to get out of. I've noticed that if an ig has to backup chances are greatly increased on spine damage. This is due to the not so flexiable spines getting caught on whatever is around them.
