I'd have to agree with what Sue1 second-guessed on impaction. And I also agree with Sue2 on not dwelling on it too much. Of course, we all understand why you still have thoughts and doubts as we all have gone thru the same thing at one time of another whether it was with an iguana or something else. So many, many things have changed over the years since you lost Jerry. They now don't recommend certain substrates because of impaction problems and/or toxic fumes. They no longer recommend animal protein like they did in the past. Even some of the more newly published care books (1997 comes to mind) have misinformation in them. The safest way to care for an iguana, in my humble opinion, is to read books, read websites on the net for the most up-to-date information, join mailing lists and participate in forums such as this one.

If you don't have an iguana now, I would encourage you to care for one again. It sounds as if you and your family loved Jerry very much and he made a huge impact on you as did his passing. Welcome to this iguana forum. We are always interested in other's advice, stories, etc.
