Ok...yet another tidbit of info to scramble your brain
Im working on nutritional contents of edible plants and flowers ...thanks to Igmomma for a very good link (provided below) Im also working on rose petals, geraniums, daylilies, nasturniums...but here's a little cut & paste on the Hibiscus(chinese) the most common Hibiscus. Has tons of medicinal uses according to Dr. Dukes Ethnobotany site...and is primarily used by Samoans. I think the Ca:P ratios present quite a contrast when comparing the flowers to the leaves. Leaves appearing to be so much better Calcium content wise.
Flowers (Fresh weight)
Water: 89.8 Protein: 0.06 Fat: 0.4 Fibre: 1.56 Calcium: 4 Phosphorus: 27 Iron: 1.7 Thiamine: 0.03 Riboflavin: 0.05 Niacin: 0.6 VitaminC: 4.2 Source: [218]
Leaves (Dry weight)
Water: 0 Protein: 15.4 Fat: 3.5 Carbohydrate: 69.7 Fibre: 15.5 Ash: 11.4 Calcium: 1670 Phosphorus: 520 Source: [218]
Whichever plant you are investigating...I simply put in the common name "rose" "hibiscus" "violets" etc. Then get the readout. I then compare it to a book on edible flowers and plants I have to get the most commonly found/accessible variety.
Pretty interesting stuff!
