I forgot where I read this (it WAS NOT an ad), but in one article in a mag or book the author claimed that he had been using the same ceramic heat emmiter everyday for 12 years!!!!!!! It may be expensive but they will probably save you money vs. light bulbs in the long run. I know that some have a claim on the box for how many hours of continuous use they last, and believe me they claim a lot. They're probably right.
When I had my ig (he died of old age) I used an infrared lamp at night in the Canadian winter. It worked just fine, except that I kept him in my bedroom and that damn red glow was a real bitch to fall asleep to. Not only that, but my room looked like a centre of satanic activity from the outside. For only 10% visible light, it spread around the room quite well. When I get my Grand Caymen Blue Rock Iguana (just the name sounds cool!) I plan to get one of these ceramic heat emitters tout suite.
