Mindboggling....based on what Ive read on it...I think it would be important to know....how much iodine is in the kelp product if you are looking at that as a "replacement" for iodine that maybe lost in cooking. Believe it or not...what Ive read on the subject....Excess iodine consumption can aggravate/impair thyroid functioning just as much as a deficiency can.Excess can cause goiter just as lack of it can. I have read about recommendations for Torts & the use of kelp supplements. I do not know what the iodine content is of kelp products. Being Torts outweigh Igs...I'd check with my vet to see if adding it would present problems for an ig.I have never read about health problems associated with excessive iodine intake and marine iguanas whose staple diet is natural kelp. Kelp *is* an excellent calcium source...but if you are cooking and removing the goitrogens in veggies/dark leafy greens that bind iodine are you also killing off the trace mineral iodine content of that veggie? Is there a "need" to replace it? Would adding iodine to cooked goitrogenic foods create an abundance of iodine? I don't know....
