If you are talking about "Rid worm", this is basically a watered down version of Panacur, it is actually what is called
TBZ aka Thiabendazole. Both Panacur and TBZ are from the benzimidazole group of anthelmintics, and are quite safe drugs. You could probably give up to 1000-5000 times the dose
and the animal would still be fine.
This group of drugs only works to rid of nematodes like hookworm, roundworm, pinworm, etc. It will not work on any of the protozoa, for instance flagellates, amoeba, or balantidium.
It is really hard to overdose with an extremely watered down version on TBZ, however I like panacur much better... You should accurately weigh the animal to get the proper dosage.
This should only be used if for some reason you do not have the funds to get a fecal done at the vet's or by someone else who knows what they are doing. If you just got an animal at the pet store, it will 99.9999% have some type of internal parasites.
Iguanas almost always have some type of internal parasites. I just did three iguana fecals in these past few days, have found all sorts of parasites....
Even iguanas that supposedly had a "clean" fecal according to the vet has tons and tons of protozoa, including possibly *big* hairy ciliated
balantidium that can be seen with only a 4X obj. lens.
