Hey, Paul! GREAT idea on the research now, and iguana later... if everyone did it that way, there wouldn't be a need for rescue groups such as ourselves!

Another couple of suggestions for ya:

1. keep researching. Also, try to locate a rescue group or herp society in your area. They can help you before AND after you get your iggy home. Some folks are nice enough to come out to your house and check your setup as well.

2. consider ADOPTING an iguana vs. buying one. You don't always get the choice of a baby, but you'll be saving a life. (I do occasionally get little baby igs through our program). I like to think of it like most people think of kittens and puppies... go to the local SPCA and save a life at the same time.

The breeding discussion is a heated one around here... captive breeding IS better than importing, but regardless of WHERE they come from the problem is that they KEEP ON COMING! There are so many nationwide dying in improper care and being dumped on rescue groups and shelters. Another good reason to consider adopting.

Feel free to check out our website. We're wroking on a new and improved one, so check back often. Also, let us know what state you're in and we'll see if we can get you setup with a herp society and/or rescue group!

: I have found a whole lot of don'ts, kknow could you help me with the do's?

: I admit, I do not plan on an ig for a few more years, but I figure that I might do well to start looking now. They seem more complex than my beloved varanids.
: PS- someone down the forum said they do not condone breeding igs- why not? I have heard that they are over explotied in thier native climes. Seeems to me it would be a good thing to breed them in captivity.
