Right now our city is thinking of passing a leash law on cats because there is to many roaming the streets. OK. Problem is most of the cats are homeless so unless they buy their own leash they will be picked up. OK, this gives the reason to pick up stray cats. Problem, our animal shelter has eight cages for dogs. Any cat brought in is usually shot (yes I said shot) that night. I've volenteered there. So if the city is going to pick up stray cats, they will have to build some type of shelter for people to claim their cats. Problem, there is no money in the budget for spending $100,000 on a new building. Not to mention, the police are right now in charge of picking up stray dogs. We have no one just in charge of the animal shelter. Now what? Do they ever think these things through or are they putting a law on the books they have no intention of enforcing.
Maybe they should pick up the people who don't spay their cat, have kittens, don't find homes for them, and then release them to fend for themselves. They could shoot them every night. Sure would save everyone a lot time and money.
Joan (just ranting, I'm better now)
