: PS: Just maybe wherever this iguana lives, they have blue shadows too......Oh Kev.....that's right you've probably seen bluer shadows some place before!!!!

Sorry kev, but the true blue iguana (which the iguana on the beach is) only lives on
Grand Cayman Island and the beaches on this island do NOT look like the blue background of the picture.

But the picture is nice nevertheless and thank you Vanessa for posting it. I think I remember seeing it on Dustin's site a while back.

The only place in the world to really get an idea of what the true blue iguana looks like (that is, to see more than 40 specimens) is at their captive breeding facility
run by the National Trust. Their wild population is only about 100 individuals or less, so 40 animals is a good number to be able to see. Seeing only a few pure blooded animals is unreliable.

Fred Burton is in charge of the captive breeding facility but the facility is closed to the public. You can call him or talk to other volunteers at the facility
to learn more about these animals, or to make a donation to their fund to save these iguanas from extinction. (345)-9490121.
Fred Burton and the volunteers who spend time with these iguanas are really the only people who know much about the pure breds.

When I was out at the breeding facility last month, I got to see the blue iguanas every day. I took tons of pictures and some of these will be published in a herp magazine. Sorry but some hybrids actually have
more blue color than some pure breds, it all depends.Just one of the reasons the whole thing is so confusing. My hybrid iguanas's mother is way more blue than some of the pure breds actually, I was surprised! I hope when my iguana matures she looks like her parents!
There are other ways to tell the difference between a hybrid and a pure blood that are sometimes more reliable than skin color. Often eye color is a good indication.

DNA test by scott davis lab is the only infallible way to know.
