There is such thing as a Blue Iguana

Although this particular picture has obviously been doctored,
there IS such a thing as a Blue Iguana.

It is the Trus Blue Iguana, Cyclura nubila lewisi, that
lives only on one tiny island in the world, called Grand Cayman island.
This iguana should not be confused with a regular green iguana that may have some
blue highlights as a baby.

True Blue iguanas are not that blue when they are born, they develop the blue as they mature.


I went to the Cayman Islands last month to study the Blue Iguanas, to visit their captive breeding facility,
and to search for them in the wild.

These iguanas are highly endangered, with less than 100 left in the wild. But yes they are absolutely gorgeous.

This genus of iguana generally do not make good pets for most people.
