Believe or not but importers are not the "enemy" As long as people want an iguana and it is legal to own an iguana there will be importers. The "enemy" is the people that want or buy iguanas (that would include some of us.) Instead of saying "if you didn’t import iguanas there wouldn’t be a problem" we should be saying "if no one bought iguanas there wouldn’t be a problem." We are the ones that are creating the demand. We are the ones taking these animals out of their hard-to-reproduce natural habitats. It is not up to the importers to educate people on how to care for these animals. It is up to the people that by an iguana to learn about proper care. This goes for any animal that "man" must rob from it’s natural habitat. What we should be doing is supporting groups like NIAD that try to inform people what the needs of an iguana are.
