In Reply to: IGGIE'S BACK HELP,VIT,FOOD.CALCIUM PLEASE HELP!!! posted by snogec on June 24, 1999 at 12:22:02:

In your originally post you were concerned that Iggie was going to die because he had stopped eating, turned vicious and was very weak. Then he escaped while out getting some sun.

It is great to hear that he has returned. But, what condition is he in? How is his appearance? Is he displaying any of the original symptoms as before? Please respond so we have a better idea.

You probably have already, but if not... Get him set back up with a heat source and UVB light. If he is still not well he will need both. Also if you have a humidifier set if up to increase the humidity in the room he is in. As I recall you are up north (Canada?) and the humidity probably is not as high as an ig needs, especially one that is not feeling well.

Next if he appears skinny and dehydrated try a slurry of of Ensure (it is a human liquad vitamin supplement) mixed with either mashed bananas or a jar of pureed green baby vegatables. Try dribbling a little of this on his lips where he can lick it off. I would also put some regular iguana food in his cage to see if he will eat it. Melissa Kaplan has a good basic salad. You should also tear up into small pieces greens such as collard, mustard, dandelion, or escarole (no lettuce!).

Amazing what these guys can survive huh? It is important to get him healthy now. Check out Melissa Kaplan's web site on iguana care if you haven't done so already. It is packed full of info. It also has a listing of herp vets and consulting vets. So even if you don't have a reptile vet in your area, a good vet in your area might be able to look your ig over and get with one of the consulting vets. Just a thought, as it is important that you get some more professional care for Iggie.
