I went through the same thing as you about 2 years ago. I never played with my ig, sometimes I'd forget to feed her. I didn't know what to feed her. I told my mom maybe I should give
her away because obviously I couldn't take care of her. My mom said give it one more try. So I hopped on the internet to find what kinds of food to give her and I found a really nice and easy recipe. It's at the botom of
the post.I also would bond with her by first giving her baths so she would relax and then I'd wrap her up in a towel and watch t.v.. I never realized igs could be so much fun.If you don't have time in the evening, get up early in the morning and play with her then. So I guess I'm saying, give it one
more try. oh here's the recipe,
*** Steve Ford's Iguana Glop ***
(Yes, I've tasted it. It's not as bad as it sounds.)
From the fresh food area of the grocery store:
* 1 big bunch of dandelion leaves (beware of wild leaves with lawn
chemicals)
* 1 acorn squash or small pumpkin (just the "meat" portions)
* 1 pear
* 1 large cantalope
From the frozen food area:
* collard greens
* mustard greens
* turnip greens (avoid the actual turnip)
* green beans
* okra
From the "health and beauty" section, I get:
* Vitamin supplement (Centrum or equiv, powdered)
* Calcium supplement (powdered)
* Brewers yeast (powdered)
From a pet supply store, I get:
* 4 cups rabbit food pellets (mostly alfalfa; get the cheap stuff in
bulk).
I throw all the fruits and veggies except the dandelion leaves into a
food
processor and grind it up into a glop. Then I coarse chop the leaves to
give
the glop some texture. I then add a good sprinkle of vitamin, calcium,
and
brewers yeast. Mix well.
This makes a HUGE bowl of food, enough to last about 3 weeks.
All this gets shoveled into zip-lock bags which I press flat (about 1/4
inch
thick) and freeze.
Feeding should be done in the morning, so that the bacteria in the
Iguana's
hindgut can be toasty-warm (it helps the iguana digest). Break off a
few
chunks of the frozen glop and nuke it. Be careful though, you wouldn't
want
hot spots burn his cute little tongue. Mix it with your finger till
it's
uniformly warm.
Yum!
-I sometimes add things or substitue things.
