Sounds like you are making progress with your alpha actions (I'm not sure about banging his cage, but he must know that you have no fear) It seems like you made headway if he allowed petting again. This mating behaviour doesn't last forever either, so hope is around the corner-- I would keep the child away from him, however, or anyone else who might show fear (& probably your female friends) until this phaze passes. Keep us posted.
