In Reply to: How are reptile day bulbs different from regular household (incand) bulbs? posted by Martin on June 15, 1999 at 15:05:27:
No difference whatsoever....(but isn't that a cute picture of an iguana next to the $9.oo price tag on those reptile lights! Iguanas require 12 hours of uva (incadescent light bulbs/reptile basking bulbs) They provide vision & heat.May want to go higher on your lightbulb wattage if you feel the 60 watts isn't giving off good heat. Make sure any fixture can handle the wattage you use I use several porcelin top fixtures metal domed ballasts (without the clamp) for my male's enclosure (its huge)The porcelin top...lasts longer about a dollar more but can handle up to 250 watts and the plastic ones tend to warp with increased heat.I found out the hard way too...years of buying expensive "reptile basking bulbs" when all I needed was a few $1.oo 125 watt bulb. ****sigh****
