traduzione testo serpenti

devo tradurre un testo sui serpenti dall'inglese. Sono in difficoltà col termine "heat pits".
In alcune specie di boa e pitoni (dice il testo) sono presenti piccole zone intorno alla bocca dette "heat pits" (fossette di calore) che consentono al serpente di avvertire un cambiamento di calore ogni volta che un altro animale gli passa vicino.
Come devo chiamarle? fossette termiche? termorecettori?
