I have to explain the venomous/nonvenomous and venomous vs. venomoid issues about 3 times a week- I think it's sort of funny, because the people who ask me that usually are interested enough in snakes to have at least watched a couple snake shows, and even a show about venomous usually has one or two nonvenomous thrown in-even if it is just to show the difference between a coral snake and a scarlet kingsnake.The nice thing is that I've actually gotten a few "snake haters" to become more neutral, and one or two have even decided to get a snake themselves.
