: Which horned lizards are legal to own in the U.S., or does it depend on your state or region?
:The only horned lizards that are "legal" in the U.S. are two species from Nevada and on species from Texas. They are the Desert Horned Lizard, Phrynosoma platyrhinos, the Shorthorned Lizard, Phrynosoma hernandezi, and the Roundtail, Phrynosoma modestum. These are legal for commercial collection. All other species are protected unless permits are purchased in the various states. The permits do not allow transfer to the pet trade or export. The Mexican species are all protected from export. There are few exceptions to the trade that is legal. Lester G. Milroy III
