: Well here it is. As for the stomach worms (Physaloptera sp.)Excusively found in ant eating lizards like the horny toad. Diagnosis is determined by finding eggs in the fecal floation. Treatment consists of giving Panacur(fenbendazole), at 25-50 mg/kg,given once a week until negative fecals are obtained. Can be given oarally. My reference on this matter is the book " Understanding Reptile Parasites" by Roger J Klingenberg D.V.M. My "Reptile Care" book says to administer 50-100mg/kg repeated after 2 weeks. I am researching clinical trials files on this medicine for HL's. But I think we got a winner.
: The penatsomids are aweful creatures who hatch in the GI tract of an insect after being consumed from fecal matter. When the insect gets eaten by a lizard and ends up in the GI tract of the lizard. As a larva, they migrate through organs until they reach the lungs. They lay their eggs in the sputum which are swallowed and passed through the GI tract. It is possible that they dont even need the insect host, especially during hybernation making the lizard a definitive host.Diagnosis is determined by finding eggs in the fecal floation. Treatment is ivermectin which is usually effective 200 mcg (mg/kg) injected intramuscularly, repeat in two weeks. My reference for this is ( Reptile Care an atlas of diseases and treatments) Vol. #1. I would still have a vet. do all the verification and administering.
