Western Hogs live in a variety of habitats. The common factors seem to be grasses on sandy soils, although in South Texas I have found kennerlyi in areas which would be better described as sandy a mesquite savannah. They also occur in areas with sand dunes.
Here are some pics I found on the web that show some "typical" habitat.
A grassland in Southern New Mexico
A panorama of a desert grassland. You need quicktime to see these. This is reasonably typical of kennerlyi habitat in Southern New Mexico.
They also occur in the grasses around sandy dune areas, such as these around the Monahans Sandhills in TX
Search online for photos on North American Grasslands or Desert Grasslands and if you can find pictures where the grass hasn't been overgrazed or replaced with wheat, that is generally a good start.
