Everything you say is true. For some reason, frogs seem to be particularly prone to carrying and passing on parasites.
Freezing should be sufficient to kill all the bugs.

Having said that, I think it's unreasonable to blame the frog diet on killing the snake. Parasites yes, but not the frogs themselves.
