A Western hognose will have an almost all black belly, the eastern hognose should have a tail lighter than the rest of the belly. Although hognose as can be more difficult than your typical corn snake, you are correct that Westerns are the easiest to keep. It is also easier to find captive bread hatchlings cheap, they do fine eating mice, and I personally feel they are cuter looking!

:I would like to know what color is the underside of the western is suppose to be? How I can I tell the difference between all of the Hognose's I heard that the western are the best to keep and easiest to start feeding on mice..

:Thanks in advance
