Yes, you can tell the difference. even as hatchlings. The male will have a much longer slender tail, while the female will have a shorter stubbier tail. here is a link

:I have a 1.1 pair of young westerns. They are about six months old, maybe a little older. Anyway, the tails are noticeably different sizes. Is this a reliable way to tell which is which or is it still too early. Thanks for responding.
