:I was rather curious to this forum and happened to drop in, I notice there is Rio Fuerte Beaded Lizards and "regular" Beaded Lizards, they have same latin names different sub-species being the rio fuerte if im not mistaken????? is exasperatum?? i probably spelled it wrong. Anyways my curiousity leads me to ask what is the difference between Rio Fuerte and "regular" beadeds? The banded and retic gila thing is pretty obvious as I had lots of pics to see and well the names are self explanatory anyways!
:None of the pics I was looking for here would show up only the infamous little x in a box did, lol when i looked at rio fuerte and just beaded topics with pics. So if anyone could answer my curiosity that would be great. By the way who ever owns that gila that has jet black bands on it,with no orange, that thing is incredibly gorgeous!
:Thanks to all
:Mike

Hi Mike,
Yes they are two different subspecies. The Rio Fuertes are heloderma h. exasperatum. They are found in N. Mexico around Sonora. Then as you go south they intergrade with heloderma h. horridum.I am not sure exactly were that is. As you go further south before Chapas Mexico heloderma h. horridum intergrades with heloderma h. alverezi. Alverezi is found in Chapas. There is one subspecies found out side of Mexico. It is found in Guatamala it is heloderma h. charlebogerti this is the most southern animal in the range. .If you want more exact info. Check out Campbell and Lamars book The Venomous Reptiles of Latin America.
I have two of the three subspecies pictures on my site if you want to look.
Regards,Chris
