Here is another gila monster from New Mexico as well.

Ever since I saw this one in Amphibians & Reptiles of New Mexico (Degenhardt, Painter, and Price) I wondered if this was the norm or an unusual specimen. It is documented to have come from Hidalgo County in New Mexico.

After seeing your picture Kerry I see this may be more the norm (if there truly can be a norm with such a variably patterned animal-LOL). It would be interesting to see if the neighboring area in Arizona to the west yields the same pattern type showing a progressive change or if it really is random.

Regardless there are very nice looking animals. And nice picture Kerry.
