Relocation is a touchy subject and is open to debate. In my opinion relocated animals have a area less than 1000 meters. So everything is released as close to the pick up site as possible. Statisticaly speaking animals released beyond 1000 meters die. The problem is area capacity. Given a square mile has 100 gilas (EXAMPLE ONLY). That is all that area can support. Now take in account encroachment has taken up 1/2 of that square mile. Now that given area can only support 50 gilas. Is relocation doing more harm than good? Are the gilas going to die anyway because of the lack of food or water because of encroachment? I can not take them beyond 1000 meters. And what if the relocated animal in that square mile came from another location outside the mile and relocating him inside is putting him beyond 1000 meters? There is several solutions-take all rescued gilas to Adobe Mountain Wildlife or allow special use permits for private individules to obtain them. Until AG&F directs me otherwise, all rescues are released as close as possible to the pick up site.

: too bad the one last year didn't survive the ordeal.
: Good Job and keep up the good work.
: A question about wildlife relocation in AZ.
: Was the requestor open to you just letting it go back in the area or do you have to remove them from the area and attempt to find suitable habitat for it.
: Here in Florida this scenario sometimes happens with alligators and pools that don't have a screen enclosures and we have to remove them from the area. Although an alligator is more at home in a pool than a gila is. LOL.
: Good job again.
: Although I would have to disagree with Kerry. That gila looks just like the male I have.(LOL)
