It can take many hours between pairing Gilas and copulation. When they copulate they usually stay locked up for some time--as long as a couple of hours. I usually am able to observe copulation in my animals several times during the 2 week when mating occurs.

: How often do you see the actual copulation when you put the gilas together in the spring? I only have experience with colubrids and it usually happens within minutes of putting them together.
