Chameleon tail injury

my vield chameleons tail was about torn off,it turned black and dried up.the guy at the pet store removed it without hardly touching it.this was 12 days ago.he is about 12 in,still eating drinking and acting normal.
will it grow back?or do I re name him stumpy?
oh I forgot to add it was bitten thru by a parrot,who escaped and ate my screen cage
