I don't know anything about inards turning to mush but I do know that beddings made of cedar and possibly pine can be detrimental to almost all reptiles. These woods have residues in them that can damage the skin and sensitive areas of the snake. Running eyes/noses or red skin between the scales espacially on the belly would be the most common short term effects.
