The less time it's in there the better; I've been able to pick out wood chips with tweezers or hemostats while the snake is eating (sometimes - too late in this case). Two people definitely makes the job easier.
You may also try opening its mouth with a credit card or something similar.
I have had luck using a spray bottle with water, set on stream,
to float debri out of snakes mouths.
