Opp Rattlesnake Rodeo Opp, Alabama. Sponsored by the Opp Jaycees. Proceeds are donated to The Alabama Children's Hospital in Birmingham. Held the first weekend in March.
Wigham Rattlesnake Roundup Wigham, Georgia. Sponsored by Wigham Communtity Club and Cairo-Grady County Chamber of Commerce. The Wigham Community Club keeps the proceeds. Held the last weekend in January.
Claxton Rattlesnake Roundup Claxton, Georgia. Sponsored by the Evans County Wildlife Club and the Claxton/Evans Chamber of Commerce. Proceeds go to American Heart Association, American Red Cross, Special Olympics, Inc, American Cancer Society, Shriners Hospitals, 4-H Club, local college scholarships. Held in March.
Gassing Gopher Tortoise burrows is illegal both in Florida and Georgia, but is still the main way the snakes are acquired. There are several roundups in Florida also, but 70% of the snakes used in them come from Georgia. From 1990 to 1994, Florida hide dealers and taxidermists purchased approximately 43,000 eastern diamondbacks.
