I had a 4-5 foot jet black male for several years and was unable to pair it up. Great snake! Spirited hisser but never tried to bite (I heard that some will bite however, but I doubt they are any different than your standard Pituophis).
They feel incredible as well. Their scales feel like rubber so they aren't slick like other snakes. I would love to find a pair and breed them. A very overlooked colubrid in my view.
It ate like a pig and never gave me any trouble. This was before the days of the internet and finding rare snakes wasn't nearly as easy as it is now, so my search for a female came up empty and finally he died (I think from Crypto, but I never found out for sure).
