i'm looking for a new field guide. i used to have the one by Roger Conant when i was a kid back in the 70's, but it's no longer in my possession. i really liked that one. i don't know if it's out of print or not. i currently have the National Audubon Society field guide. it has great pictures, but no belly shots and i don't like the way the range maps are laid out. they use the same map to lump several different subspecies together with one color - gray. it can be confusing. the old one i had used different colors for each subspecies and it was easier to read. the only thing i've seen close to that recently is the Peterson field guide, only it doesn't have enough pictures. does anybody have any ideas/suggestions or good bookstores to check? i live in central Virginia. one that covers North America or eastern and central North America would be fine. i appreciate it.
