:i put this on the Racer/Coachwhip forum the other day, but everybody must be asleep or on vacation because i got no response at all! This is a Northern Black Racer i caught last Saturday where i live in Bedford County, Virginia. i believe it's true what someone said several posts back:'when you're trying to find them, you can't and when you're not looking for them, that's when they show up.' well, i was looking for snakes and this fellow caught me by surprise! he was in an abandoned field across the road from the James River. i found 2 just like him last year in the same spot - i believe a male and a female. i was walking down a grass path near a small pond when i stumbled upon him! he was either resting in the sun or hunting. all i know is i looked down and he started moving. i grabbed him by the tail and it took me a few minutes to get him restrained. he had puffed himself up and at first i thought it was a Black Rat Snake. he bit me twice! i plan to set him loose as soon as it warms up again. the weather here has been really screwy! it was close to 80 degrees the day i caught him and the next day we got 2 inches of snow!!!
