Placing a basking lamp over a water dish or placing a heat mat under a watter dish to increase humidity has been a method used by countless big name breeders, petstores, and petowners for more years than I have been alive. Even Vets dont say this is bad. Never have I heard someone say their snake has gotten ill from the water due to a heating element.
I have MANY snakes. None actually have a heatmat underneath, rather I use Radiant Heat pannels. My soak dishes are located underneath these pannels. ALL my snakes have Vet checkups; Physical examinations, fecal exams... blood work etc. My snakes are in tip-top shape....
:If you have a water bowl on top of a heater it creates a high bacteria count in the water that can hurt the snake.
