I think your cage would be great for either snake unless it is a hatchling or tiny neonate. As they get older they become greedier feeders and should do well in a larger cage. See the reason large cages often are not recommended is because snakes may not eat. I don't think thats much of a problem with older established animals. If the Rat Snake refuses food then take it out and put it in a small container with its food every week. The carpets will take food with teasing if it refuses. Size of cages are not a factor in whether a carpet eats or not. But either snake would be a wonderful exhibit in the cage. You may want to make a naturalistic display cage.
