There are lots of good choices that meet your few criteria, but I would suggest starting out with a Corn Snake. There are dozens of color varieties available, they are readily available and they are reasonably cheap. They are also easy to feed, docile, and don't get much larger than 3-4 feet.
I would suggest buying one directly from a breeder and having it shipped (or going to a herp expo in your area) rather than buying one from a pet store. You can usually buy direct and ship for less money than the pet stores charge anyway. And if you buy from a breeder with a lot of varieties, you will have more choices of color morphs.
You might start at somewhere like Cathy Love's Cornutopia.
She will have lots of photos of the different morphs and should have some in stock at the moment.
